The Exorcist deserves all the plaudits it gets. A truly iconic, timeless, genre-defining masterpiece.
Unfortunately, the sequel deserves all the criticism it gets.
So many people overlook the third in the series because…well, why wouldn’t they?
But to many, this is the true sequel to William Friedkin’s classic. Not only is it equally, if not more tense and terrifying, but it’s based on Exorcist author William Peter Blatty’s actual sequel novel, Legion. And as a bonus, this is one of only two films Blatty actually directed.
It’s gory and violent without showing much gore or violence (its all mostly implication and aftermath).
George C Scott and Brad Douriff are tremendous as the recast Kinderman and the ‘Gemini Killer’ respectively.
And it has THE greatest jump scare in cinema history.
And I promise. I promise that is no exagerration.
If you haven’t seen it, Exorcist III is a must for any horror fan. Far, far better than it had any right being.
